This piece was forged and finished by hand in Quebec as a singular expression of an ongoing exploration in form and balance. It is built for daily use, but carries the intention of lasting far beyond it. This knife reflects a more deliberate phase of the work — where creativity, choice of material and process are pushed slightly further. The blade was shaped and refined by hand, using a patrimonial piece of metal salvaged from the dismantled Old Champlain Bridge. Being construction steel, it serves a great use as the cladding (outer layers) for this San Mai construction. Attention was given not only to performance, but to the relationship between weight, taper, and movement, with a slightly forward heavy feel, working like a charm on veggies. The result is a tool that feels composed and assured in use, yet retains the presence of its making. The handle was carefully made from a single piece of texture rich Honduras rosewood, in order to put emphasis on the blade and the minimalism of this construction.
