This Japanese matcha whisk (made of bamboo) was designed to prepare matcha tea the ancient ceremonial way. The Japanese tea ceremony is a ritual rooted in Zen Buddhism, which used to be held for spiritual and calming purposes. The host would traditionnally use a small bowl, specially designed to prepare a blend of matcha tea and hot water. The whisk was then used to transform the blend into a frothy beverage.
