A miniature canoe carved from moose antler, hollowed out by hand and finished with a split ring so it can ride on your keys. Made by Gordon Shecapio-Blacksmith in Oujé-Bougoumou, Eeyou Istchee. The canoe carried families along the rivers of Eeyou Istchee long before roads reached the territory, and it is still one of the most recognizable shapes in Cree making. At this size it becomes something you can carry every day. Each one is cut from a single piece of antler, so the colour runs anywhere from ivory to warm tan and the porous inner grain shows differently on every piece.
