This cactus is normally found in the mountainous regions of Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru where it gets its common name, "The Old Man of the Andes." It is covered in fine white hairs which protect it from the sun and collect moisture from the air. They are slow-growers but are considered quite easy to care for .
